Play abandoned at The Oval as crossbow bolt lands on field

Play was abandoned during a County Championship game when a crossbow bolt landed on the field.

Surrey was facing Middlesex at The Kia Oval when spectators were told to take cover inside after an arrow came from outside of the ground and stuck into the grass at 4.35pm on Thursday, 31 August.

No-one was injured in the incident and police conducted an evacuation of the stadium. No arrests have been made so far as enquires continue.

The game ended in a draw, with John Simpson's unbeaten 88 helping Middlesex into a lead of 181 runs with three wickets in hand when the players were told to leave the pitch.
