Rider airlifted to hospital after North West 200 practice crash

A rider has been airlifted to hospital following a crash during opening practice of the North West 200 in Belfast.

The rider has remained unnamed but is said by race organisers to have sustained “some injuries” in the crash.

The incident in Superbike practice at the University Corner section of the Belfast course also involved another rider.

A further practice session will take place on Thursday morning with the meeting's opening three races taking place later in the day.

Saturday's main day of action will see five races including both Superbike races.
