Rory McIlroy has parted company with his caddie of nine years.
The Northern Irishman has sacked his fellow countryman, JP Fitzgerald, after a partnership which saw four major titles and the top of the world rankings.
The news comes after McIlroy openly praised Fitzgerald for his use of choice words, which spurred the golfer on after a poor performance at the start of the Open.
The world number four is expected to confirm Fitzgerald’s sacking on his arrival at Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio, for the World Golf Championships Bridgestone Invitational this week.
