Serena Williams beats Simona Halep at Australia Open

    Serena Williams beat world number one Simona Halep in a fascinating duel at the Australian Open.

    The 37-year-old American won 6-1 4-6 6-4 over the top seed in a high-quality display of tennis in the last-16 tie.

    Williams is searching for her first Grand Slam title since coming back from pregnancy last year.

    The 23-time Grand Slam champion will meet Czech seventh seed Karolina Pliskova, who beat Spain's two-time Grand Slam winner Garbine Muguruza earlier on Monday, in the last eight.
