British cycling fans will be divided over the announcement that Sir Bradley Wiggins may attempt to add another Olympic medal to his already sizeable haul at Tokyo 2020.
The nation largely fell in love with the 2012 Tour de France winner, who was a fundamental part of British Cycling’s ‘medal factory’. However, his reputation has been battered and bruised following allegations of the unethical use of therapeutic use exemptions, including the suspicious tale of a mysterious package delivered to him during his time at Team Sky at the Criterium du Dauphine.
You can add a further layer of confusion to all this when fans are told he will not be returning from retirement on a bike but in a boat.
After hanging up his bike in December 2016, Wiggo has been keeping fit by rowing in the gym and he is now set to compete at the British Indoor Rowing Championships in December.
The 37-year-old said: "I might be being a bit delusional, but the times suggest I'm not. I'm going to see how far I can take it. Maybe a sixth Olympic gold?"
