I am Nafisa Sultan, founder and director of Sultan Bridal. No matter which city / country I visit, clients always ask me the same question. Leading up to Christmas and New Year we are busy working hard, shopping, planning parties and indulging on a lot of delicious treats, which well let’s be honest is something we do to help our stress levels and to get ourselves into the spirit of being Merry!
The cold outside and the heat indoors strips our skin from moisture which can make it dry and itchy. Not enough sleep shows on your face, skin sags and dark circles under eyes.
Is there a quick way to rescue our skin, well yes there is if you follow some simple rules which we should all adhere to twelve months a year! Give yourself at least six weeks to see the best results.
Eating clean: Replace those treats with some nutritional snacks. These include nuts, such as, almonds, hazelnuts and pine nuts which are full of Vitamin E which protects your skin from cell damage and promotes healthy skin growth. Eating greens, spinach and kale which are full of vitamin A, C and E with natural antioxidants that fight against skin problems.
Water: Can't get simpler than that, keeping hydrated is a must as our skins cells are made up of water. Not enough water makes skin look tired and wrinkly. We seem to forget water is absorbed by all our organs before it gets to our skin! So make sure you are drinking enough.
Reduce Caffeine & Sugar: Caffeine dehydrates skin, drinking a large amount causes skin inflammation and premature ageing. To add to that sugar weakens the collagen in skin which in hand with coffee speeds up ageing.
Oily fish: Salmon and trout are full of fatty acids which helps keep your skin supple and moisturised. Salmon also has selenium, a mineral that protects the skin from sun exposure. The vitamin D in salmon keeps your bones and teeth strong and healthy, too.
Rest: Sleep, ideally seven to eight hours of it. Not having enough shows on your face, skin sags and can give you dark circles under the eyes. Our skin is more receptive when sleeping.
Skin Care: Having a good daily regime is a must but especially before we go to bed. As much as it can be tempting after a long day to sleep with our make-up on we must cleanse and moisturise! Getting rid of the bacteria and pollution which clogs up our skin causing irritation and pimples.
"I regret taking such good care of my skin" - said no one ever
