Many parents will remember the elation of passing their driving test at 17 and affording themselves the independence that comes with it – a traditional rite of passage for teenagers across the country. However, new research suggests that parents of modern youngsters are fearing their children are being priced off the roads completely.
Research from ‘Young Driver’, found that almost one in four parents (24%) think the rising costs of car insurance is stopping them from encouraging their kids to learn to drive at 17, with the average insurance policy for young people already notoriously high and growing with time.
For previous generations, buying, maintaining and driving a car from the earliest opportunity has been relatively simple. But, with all the costs that come with being on the roads nowadays, are we in danger of seeing a generation unable to afford the freedom and independence driving allows?
Motoring expert and TV presenter, Quentin Willson, joined us to share why he’s joining the fight against increasing road costs for younger people and why something needs to be done by government.
