The generosity of people across Britain is being undermined by opaque and often misleading fee structures used by some online giving platforms, according to new research commissioned by GoFundMe.
One of the biggest concerns is the hidden fees platforms take from Gift Aid. Gift Aid is a government-funded scheme which adds 25p to every pound donated to registered charities by UK taxpayers. According to the research, 72% of people believe it is unreasonable for platforms to take a cut of Gift Aid claimed for charities on eligible donations.
A third (34%) of people would be more likely to donate online if it was easier to see how much of the money actually goes to the charity rather than the platform and 30% of people stated they would be more likely to use online fundraising platforms if it was explained more clearly what the fees are used for.
So what is the solution?
We were joined by John Coventry from GoFundMe who will reveal why he is launching a new low-cost charity fundraising product which will guarantee 100% of Gift Aid donations go to the intended charity.
