Newsroom Special - How old is your heart?

4 minutes | Tuesday, 18 September 2018

Public Health England is calling for adults across the country to take a free, online ‘Heart Age Test’. If someone’s heart age is higher than their actual age, they are at an increased risk of having a heart attack or stroke.

84,100 people die from a heart attack or stroke each year in England. Cardiovascular diseases (CVD), of which strokes and heart attacks are the most common examples, are the leading cause of death in men and the second in women.

The Heart Age Test asks a number of simple physical and lifestyle questions and provides an immediate estimation of someone’s heart age, as well as a prediction of the risk of having a heart attack or stroke by a certain age.

Professor Jamie Waterall, National Lead for Cardiovascular Disease Prevention and Associate Deputy Chief Nurse at Public Health England, joined us to discuss the test.
