Newsroom Special - Is the UK a lonely place to be?

6 minutes | Friday, 19 October 2018

Despite a record long summer and iconic celebratory occasions such as the Royal Wedding and World Cup fever, the UK’s sense of well-being has fallen in the past 12 months – with loneliness identified as a key contributor to the decline in morale.

That’s according to the latest Sainsbury’s Living Well Index, developed in partnership with leading researchers Oxford Economics and the National Centre for Social Research, which tracks the happiness and health of more than 8,000 people every six months.

To combat these feelings of loneliness and isolation, a new in-store community initiative is being trialled in over 20 selected Sainsbury’s stores from October – December 2018.

To tell us more we were joined by TV presenter and mental health charity MIND ambassador Anna Williamson.
