Newsroom Special - National Apprenticeship Week

4 minutes | Wednesday, 7 March 2018

With the future economy becoming more and more reliant technology, there is an urgent need in the UK to adapt our business models of training and recruitment. Emerging technologies are changing the world of work at such a rapid pace that Universities and even the most advanced companies in industries hadn’t necessarily anticipated.

Last year the CBI reported that three in four UK businesses have reported a digital skills shortage among their employees. With technical talent at a premium, offering apprenticeships can give firms a head-start when it comes to tapping the top talent. At IBM, "new-collar" candidates accounted for around 15% of hiring in the United States last year and the UK is set to follow suit.

Joining us to discuss how the skill shortage can be plugged as well as where business should be looking for future tech talent, is Jenny Taylor, Apprenticeship and Student Programme Leader at IBM.
