New research finds that over a third (36%) of Brits wouldn’t assist somebody having an epileptic seizure, with 57% admitting they know very little about the condition. This is even more shocking due to the fact epilepsy is one of the most common serious neurological conditions in the world. It affects around 600,000 people in the UK. This means that almost 1 in 100 people in the UK have epilepsy, with around 87 people diagnosed with epilepsy in the UK every day.
In an effort to close this knowledge gap and build confidence among the British public, charity Epilepsy Action are looking to dispel the common myths that still exist around the condition throughout National Epilepsy Week (20 to 26 May 2019).
