We have, as a nation, made great strides to express the downsides of social media to the younger and more vulnerable of those among us. However, new research suggests some of the ways that parents use these websites and apps every day could be putting their children’s futures at risk.
You may not see a problem with the 75% of parents who share images of their kids on Facebook or Instagram, but the secret details held within that photo could lead to a potential identity theft years down the line.
The research, commissioned by Barclays, suggests that there could be as many as 7.4 million online identity fraud incidences by 2030 and could cost those currently under-18 a total of £676 million a year.
In the studio to discuss how parents can keep their children, and themselves, safe online is Jodie Gilbert, Head of Cyber Strategy at Barclay’s UK as well as Gemma, a mummy blogger.
