Newsroom Special - Restart a Heart Day

6 minutes | Tuesday, 16 October 2018

If someone were to have a cardiac arrest in front of you, could you step in to perform lifesaving CPR before paramedics arrived?

Almost a third (30%) of adults in the UK wouldn’t perform life-saving CPR if they saw someone suffer a cardiac arrest – according to figures released today by the University of Warwick for Restart a Heart Day.

The British Heart Foundation (BHF), which commissioned the research, says the figures show that lives are still being put at risk every day because not enough people know how to perform CPR.

To tell us more we were joined by cardiac nurse Ashleigh Li. She was alongside David, who suffered a cardiac arrest in 2016, and Alex - who saved David's life with CPR.
