It may have been released back in 1985, but classic game Super Mario Brothers has stood the test of time and tops a new list of the nation’s favourite video games.
The enduring popularity of retro games seems to stem from childhood, with the research for PLAY Expo revealing just under a third (31%) have very fond memories of playing games even before they became retro.
Whilst gaming is as popular as ever with youngsters, the research also found that our enjoyment of video games spans the generations. Over half of those surveyed agreed gaming gave them a chance to bond with the younger members of their family and 55% said they prefer to play retro games with relatives than their modern day equivalents.
In the studio to discuss the nation’s love for retro gaming and with more details on the upcoming PLAY Expo are MD of Replay Events Andy Brown and comedian, YouTuber and gaming expert, Stuart Ashen.
