Following England Women’s victory in their first One Day International against New Zealand, new research from NatWest explores the perception that girls and women have towards cricket.
In conjunction with NatWest’s #NoBoundaries campaign, the research revealed that 70% of girls and young women, aged between 10 and 22 years old, view cricket as a ‘sport for everyone’, no matter your age or gender.
Recent reports from the ECB show that there has been an 18% increase in female players between 2016 and 2017, whilst NatWest’s research shows that over 230,000 girls play cricket regularly, which equates roughly to one in 20 females aged between 10 and 22 years old across the whole of the UK.
There is no doubt that England Women winning the World Cup last year, at a frenzied, sold-out Lord’s, has had a positive impact on active participation.
Ebony Rainford-Brent, former England cricket star and now a leading coach and commentator on the game, joined us to discuss the campaign.
