Newsroom Special - Should we have an MOT for our home?

6 minutes | Monday, 17 December 2018

With winter fully upon us and the temperatures creeping ever-closer to zero, checking and ensuring your house is fully maintained and ready for the oncoming cold snaps is vital. In fact, new research suggests that some Brits could benefit from an MOT-style checklist of actions to better maintain their homes, including appliances they should get serviced.

The survey, commissioned by UIA Mutual Insurance, suggests that a fair number of Brits are struggling with some of the most basic checks. These include over a fifth (22%) not knowing how to bleed radiators and nearly a third (32%) who admit to not having checked their drains for an entire year.

Builder and TV personality Tommy Walsh joined us on the line to discuss the research and what Brits should be checking as part of their ‘Winter House MOT’.
