Newsroom Special - Store staff under attack

7 minutes | Tuesday, 20 November 2018

The Association of Convenience Stores (ACS) is calling on the government to introduce new protections for shop workers. This follows their 2018 Crime Report which found the biggest concern of retailers is violence against staff.

There were over 13,000 incidents of violence committed against retailers and staff over the last year, over a third of which resulted in injury.

The report also aligned with ‘Respect for Shopworkers’ Week (12th-18th November), which encourages the public to remember that, despite the additional stresses of the Christmas period, there is never an excuse for abuse or violence.

In the studio to discuss the potential new changes they feel should be made, and to take a further look at 2018’s Crime Report, are David Williams from the Union of Shop, Distributive and Allied Workers, and James Lowman, CEO of the Association of Convenience Stores.
