Newsroom Special - World Hearing Day

4 minutes | Tuesday, 6 March 2018

Despite recommendations from NICE (National Institute for Health & Care Excellence), three quarters of us Brits still cannot resist the urge to itch by putting cotton buds into our ears to remove earwax. Moreover, one in five (22%) are guilty of doing this unhealthy habit up to 14 times per week! Of those, almost a third (32%) admit reaching for a bud as it feels good, with some even admitting they enjoy seeing the collection of wax that is removed.

A new study of over 2,000 men and women by Earex shows that nearly half of us don’t know that cotton buds aren’t intended to be used to clean the wax from our ears. (They’re typically advertised use is to gently clean and dry in-between baby's fingers, toes and around the eyes, nose or outer ear).

Here to help us look after our ears properly so we can enjoy healthy hearing for longer is Dr Roger Henderson.
